Want to lead? You better know what motivates people…

Here is a video featuring Daniel Pink talking about his book “Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us.” and research from Dan Ariely as featured in “The Upside of Irrationality.”   Bottom line:  you have to pay “enough” to make money a non-issue.  After that you better be focusing on autonomy, mastery and purpose.

This is worth viewing.   The experiments are designed to look at all sides of the wealth vs empathy debate.  The results say more about human behavior than class behavior and they range from identifying the behaviors of privilege to the social cost of wealth.  The question is… if this is how we (all of us) are inclined to behave, what do we (all of us as a society) do to make life better?

While this article from CIO Magazine is called “8 Ways to Use LinkedIn Groups to Boost Your Business,” I think it should be “8 ways to Use LinkedIn Groups to Boost YOU.”  The tips in this article apply to anyone promoting their business or their personal brand.  Contributing through LinkedIn groups (or other social media) is a great way to help others AND demonstrate your capabilities.
